![]() Reporting to the Provost and President, the Chief Librarian serves as leader of the library faculty, collaborates with senior administrators and Deans of other College divisions, serves as liaison for the school within CUNY’s central administration, and interacts with external partners. ![]() The Chief Librarian must have the managerial and organizational skills and political acumen to navigate a complex academic setting, and build strong relationships with the academic senior leadership across the College. With demonstrated administrative skills and a hands on approach, s/he will be engaged, innovative, and most importantly, motivated by a clear commitment to students and faculty. The successful candidate will be an outstanding scholar of wide-ranging intellectual curiosity who can articulate a unified vision and provide direction for the diverse units of the libraries. Currently undergoing a major renovation, the libraries are well on their way to becoming the kind of energizing and welcoming spaces-with an ever-evolving array of tools and resources (both print and digital) for teaching, learning, and research-that define a truly modern college library. The Libraries serve as intellectual commons for Hunter by providing in-house and virtual opportunities to share information, knowledge, data and perspectives on issues important to the college community. Hunter College Libraries serve Hunter’s faculty, staff and students by providing broad access to a variety of learning and research materials, up to date technology for information access and instruction, strong collections in support of the curriculum and spaces for independent and collaborative study. The libraries include the Leon and Toby Cooperman Library (main campus), School of Education Library (within Cooperman), Nursing and Health Professions Library (HPL), Schools of Social Work and Public Health Library, and the Judith and Stanley Zabar Art Library. Hunter's five library branches occupy four campuses across New York City and are home to a collection of over 700,000 materials, and ¬¬¬¬resources. Hunter’s libraries sit at the intellectual crossroads of the College and the Chief Librarian will be tasked with ensuring that they continue to support the College’s mission of research productivity and innovation, professional preparation, and world-class undergraduate and graduate education. ![]() With more than 23,000 students (16,689 undergraduate and 6,330 graduate students) it is CUNY’s most populous campus with a strong commitment to educating students whose access to higher education has historically been limited.
